The West Bengal government on Monday appointed retired IPS officer Virendra as State Chief Information Commissioner for three years. Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose administered the Oath of office to Virendra as State Chief Information Commissioner, West Bengal Information Commission at Raj Bhavan.

Former DGP Virendra was appointed Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) on February 15 during a meeting held in the chamber of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the state Assembly. From 2018 to 2021, Virendra served as the state’s DGP.
