According to reports, Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose’s Principal Secretary Nandini Chakraborty (IAS:1994:WB) has been relieved of her duties at Raj Bhavan. It is being said that the Governor is interested in revamping his Raj Bhawan team, which serves as his advisers. It is also reported that he has asked the state government for fresh young officers.
In late evening developments on Sunday, as reported in the media, the West Bengal Raj Bhavan asked the state Secretariat to replace Nandini Chakroborty as the Governor’s Principal Secretary immediately. This development has not occurred in tandem but is linked with the meeting of BJP’s state president Sukanta Majumdar with the Governor. In this meeting, Majumdar explained the state’s current situation.
Leader of the opposition and BJP leader Subvendu Adhikari has already attacked Chakraborty, claiming she is acting as a special envoy for the state government and using the governor’s office to promote the Chief Minister’s agenda.
Since the publication of this report, the state’s chief secretary has not issued any order to replace Nandini. But before that, the governor’s permission or instructions need to reach the Chief Secretary. It is reported that the Chief Secretary had not received any such instructions until Sunday night. However, despite the media’s intense discussion on Sunday night, no one knows anything about this matter, including the Chief Secretary himself and the Principal Secretary to the Governor.
Sunil Kumar Gupta (IAS:1987:WB) was the Principal Secretary to former Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar. After Dhankhar became Vice President, Gupta too went on a central deputation and was appointed as his Secretary.
Thereafter, Chakraborty was appointed as Principal Secretary to the Governor during the term of the interim Governor, La Ganesan. After Ananda Bose took charge during the closing quarters of 2022, she continued in his post.
