The Centre on Monday approved the West Bengal government’s request for the extension of service of the state Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay (IAS:1987:WB), in view of his handling the Coivd-19 pandemic. His services have been extended for three months till August 31, 2021. He was scheduled to retire on May 31
The West Bengal government had written to the Centre on May 12, seeking to grant Bandyopadhyay an extension for at least six months.
He took over as the chief secretary of West Bengal after Rajiva Sinha (IAS:1986:WB) retired in September last year.
