Deputy National Security Adviser Vikram Misri (IFS:1989) has been appointed as the new Foreign Secretary of India, effective from July 15, following the retirement of the incumbent Vinay Kwatra (IFS:1988) on July 14.

Prior to his tenure as Deputy NSA, Misri served as the Ambassador of India to China, where he played a crucial role in managing complex bilateral relations. Early in his career, he served at the Indian missions in Brussels and Tunis, and was later appointed as India’s Ambassador to Spain in 2014 and Myanmar in 2016. Additionally, he has served in various Indian missions across Africa and North America.

Vikram Misri holds the rare distinction of having served as the private secretary to three former prime ministers: Indra Kumar Gujral in 1997, Manmohan Singh in 2012, and Narendra Modi in 2014.
