Our sources once again proved accurate, as legendofficers.com had reported on September 15, 2025, that senior IAS officer Vikas Sheel (IAS:1994:CG) was set to become the next Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh. On Thursday, the State government appointed him as the successor to Amitabh Jain (IAS:1987:CG), whose extended tenure will end on September 30.

Jain, who was scheduled to retire on June 30, 2025, had received a three-month extension on last day of his service.

Currently serving on central deputation as Executive Director at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Manila, Sheel had taken charge in January 2024 for a three-year term. He has now been formally relieved from his role at ADB to assume charge as Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh.

Born on June 10, 1969, and originally from Uttar Pradesh, Sheel began his IAS career in the erstwhile Madhya Pradesh cadre before opting for the newly formed Chhattisgarh cadre in 2000. Over the years, he has served as Collector of Raipur and Bilaspur and held several important Secretary-level positions in the State government.

On central deputation since 2018, Sheel has held key roles including Additional Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, and Additional Secretary & Mission Director, Jal Jeevan Mission, Ministry of Jal Shakti.
