Varnali Deka appointed Director in Ministry of Tribal Affairs

IAS officer Varnali Deka appointed Director in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs under Central Staffing Scheme for five years.

The Central government on Tuesday (August 12, 2025) appointed Varnali Deka (IAS:2009:AM) as Director in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, New Delhi, for a tenure of five years.

Currently serving as Commissioner & Secretary, General Administration Department (GAD), Assam, Deka was recommended for Central deputation and selected under the Central Staffing Scheme.

According to the order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), her appointment will be effective from the date she assumes charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

This appointment strengthens the administrative leadership in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, which plays a pivotal role in implementing policies and programs for the socio-economic development of tribal communities across India.
