Former IAS officer Sushil Kumar (Retd. IAS:2005:UK) was appointed as the new State Election Commissioner (SEC) of Uttarakhand on Thursday. He assumed charge of the new assignment at the State Election Commission. The post of SEC had been vacant for the last eight months following the end of the tenure of former IAS officer Chandrashekhar Bhatt.
The appointment of Kumar assumes importance in the wake of upcoming elections of the urban local bodies (ULB) and three tier Panchayati Raj system.
Kumar started his career as an officer of Provincial Civil Services (PCS) and has worked on many positions in the State government. He retired as Garhwal commissioner last year.
