Senior IAS officer Rajesh Kumar Singh (IAS:1991:UP), currently serving as Principal Secretary, Home Guards Department, may have to wait longer for his elevation to the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) rank.

Singh was previously removed from the Jail Administration and Reforms Department and Cooperative Department following a stern reprimand from the Supreme Court on September 6, 2024. The court had pulled up the Uttar Pradesh government over a delay in the pardon of convicts, observing that the file was stuck with Singh, then the concerned officer.

The apex court stated that it had been misled on the matter, and strongly warned that it would not tolerate IAS officers changing their stance based on convenience or misleading the court.

Following the incident, Singh was placed on the waiting list before being posted as Principal Secretary, Home Guards on January 2, 2025.

Notably, four IAS officers—two each from the 1991 and 1992 batches—were recently designated as Additional Chief Secretary (ACS). These include Lakko Venkateshwarlu and BL Meena (both 1991 batch), and Narendra Bhooshan and Anurag Srivastava (both 1992 batch).
