The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday appointed Prashant Kumar (IPS:1990:UP), the Director General of Law and Order, as the new acting Director General of Police (DGP) for the state. He will assume the role from Vijay Kumar (IPS:1988:UP), the outgoing acting DGP who retires later today.
Prashant Kumar, a senior IPS officer, enjoys the trust of the Yogi government and has been instrumental in enhancing the law-and-order situation in Uttar Pradesh. His previous posting was as the Additional Director General (ADG) of Meerut.
This marks the fourth consecutive term in which Uttar Pradesh has had an acting DGP. Previously, D S Chauhan (IPS:1988:UP), R K Vishwakarma (IPS:1988:UP), and Vijay Kumar (IPS:1988:UP) have served in this interim capacity.
