IAS officer Abhishek Singh (IAS:2011:UP), who gained attention for being removed from Gujarat election duty due to sharing his new assignment on social media in November of the previous year, has officially resigned from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). His suspension from the service occurred in February 2023.

During the Gujarat Assembly elections, Abhishek served as an observer, but a controversy arose over photographs taken in front of a government vehicle. His conduct during the elections was viewed as unsatisfactory, leading to his removal from observer duty. Following his removal from Gujarat election duty, Abhishek Singh graciously accepted the decision of the Election Commission.

However, subsequent to his removal, Abhishek Singh failed to report to the appointment department, resulting in the state government suspending him and reassigning him to the Revenue Board.

This is not the first instance of his failure to report to the state’s appointment department. In 2015, Abhishek Singh was deputed to the Delhi Government for three years, and in 2018, this deputation was extended for an additional two years. During this period, he took a medical leave, which led the Delhi government to send him back to his parent cadre, Uttar Pradesh, on March 19, 2020. Despite the appointment department’s requests for a response, he did not provide one and did not join duty in UP for an extended period. Finally, he resumed duty on June 30, 2022.

During his absence, Abhishek Singh explored opportunities in the entertainment industry and appeared in various films. He gained recognition for his role in Netflix’s acclaimed series “Delhi Crime.” Additionally, he was featured in a short film titled “Chaar Pandrah” and appeared in B Praak’s song “Dil Tod Ke.”

Abhishek Singh is originally from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, while his wife, Durga Shakti Nagpal (IAS:2010:UP), serves as the District Magistrate (DM) of Banda district.

Recently, he organized a grand Ganeshotsav event in Jaunpur, attended by several film stars from Mumbai. This event is seen as part of his preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
