Union govt notifies appointment of new Chief Justices in 8 High Courts

The Union government on Saturday (21.09.2024) notified the appointment of Chief Justices in eight High Courts. These includes the High Courts of Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Madras and Jharkhand.

The Union government on Saturday (21.09.2024) notified the appointment of Chief Justices in eight High Courts. These includes the High Courts of Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Madras and Jharkhand.

The names of newly appointed chief justices are as follows:

  1. Justice Manmohan, Acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, has been appointed as Chief Justice of Delhi High Court.
  2. Justice Rajiv Shakdher, Judge of Delhi High Court, has been appointed as Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
  3. Justice Suresh Kait, Judge of Delhi High Court, has been appointed as Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
  4. Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji, Judge of Calcutta High Court, has been appointed as Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court.
  5. Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar, Judge of Bombay High Court, has been appointed as Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court.
  6. Justice Tashi Rabstan, Acting Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, has been appointed as Chief Justice of the same court.
  7. Justice Shriram Kalpathi Rajendran, Judge of Bombay High Court, has been appointed Chief Justice of Madras High Court.
  8. Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao, Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, has been transferred as Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court.

Notably, the Supreme Court Collegium initially recommended these appointments on July 11, 2023. However, revisions were made to the original list on September 17, 2023, modifying the recommendations for four High Courts.
