The Union government on Friday (26.05.2023) appointed Chief Justices to five High Courts: Bombay, Madras, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala and Rajasthan. These appointments were recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on 19th April 2023.
They are;
- Justice Ramesh Deokinandan Dhanuka has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court. He is the second senior-most judge at the Bombay HC after Acting Chief Justice Sanjay V Gangpurwala.
- Justice Sanjay Vijaykumar Gangapurwala has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Madras High Court succeeding Justice S Vaidyanathan, who was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of Madras on 25th May 2023.
- Justice Mamidanna Satya Ratna Sri Ramachandra Rao has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court. He is a Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and succeeds Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan who has been serving as the Acting Chief Justice of Himachal HC.
- Justice Sarasa Vankatanarayana has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Kerala High Court. He is the senior-most puisne Judge Acting Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court.
- Justice Augustine George Masih has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court. He is the senior-most puisne Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court.
