The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered a vigilance probe against two IPS officers- Himanshu Kumar (IPS:2010:UP) and Ajay Pal Sharma (IPS:2011:UP). The probe has been initiated on the basis of an inquiry reportedly submitted by the Special Investigation Team (STF). The STF was looking into the corruption charges level against five IPS officers levelled by another IPS officer Vaibhav Krishna (IPS:2010:UP) in a secret letter to the chief minister.

While a case will be filed against Sharma, Himanshu will first face a departmental inquiry.

The other three officers named in the SIT report- Ganesh Prasad Saha (IPS:2013:UP), Sudhir Kumar Singh (IPS:2009:UP) and Rajiv Narain Mishra- have been shunted to insignificant positions.
