The haphazard transfer and posting policy resented by IAS officers in Maharashtra

The arbitrary  transfer of Medha Gadgil, the seniormost bureaucrat in the state, seems to have caused  discontent among senior IAS officers of the state . Gadgil, an IAS officer of the 1983 batch, was abruptly removed from the relief and rehabilitation department and appointed to lead the Maharashtra State Financial Corporation, considered to be an insignificant assignment .

Emphasizing  the need for a clear transfer and posting policy, they questioned the need for creating several such posts where ACS level officers are not  required. Expressing their grievance, a senior bureaucrat told
” These posts are simply used to shunt senior inconvenient bureaucrats”.

“If we look at the postings of senior bureaucrats, particularly in the rank of additional chief secretary, it appears that they have been sidelined and have been given insignificant assignments and junior IAS officers have been given plum posts,” another senior bureaucrat told .

Meanwhile, after criticism, Gadgil was brought back to Mantralaya and appointed additional chief secretary (administrative reforms, organisation and methods).
