Earlier, the officer had written to the Union Home Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, seeking retirement from October 2, 2020. The same got rejected by the Government under Rule 16 of All India Services (DCRB) Rules, 1958, which specifies that an officer can’t go on premature retirement while still facing a disciplinary probe proceedings.

In June, Singh had sought the premature retirement, saying he joined the service with a hope to change the police system but said he had failed. This move took many in the power corridors of Telangana, by surprise as VK Singh is scheduled to retire in November this year.
