Telangana: Former Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar appointed as Chief Advisor to CM

Former Chief Secretary of Telangana Somesh Kumar (Retd. IAS:1989:AP) has been appointed as Chief Advisor to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in the rank of Cabinet Minister for a period of three years.

Somesh Kumar served as Chief Secretary of Telangana for three years till January 2023. He was chosen for the post of CS by CM KCR though nearly 12 senior IAS officers above him.

Kumar took voluntary retirement from his service, eight months before his retirement, after he was allotted to the Andhra Pradesh cadre by Telangana High Court in the second week of January this year. He was ordered to report to the AP government with immediate effect. Later he took VRS and got the approval of retirement last month.

There were many speculations about his next assignment with the Telangana government. As Somesh Kumar applied for the post of Chairman of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA), it was believed that he would get that post. Later his appearance during BRS public meetings held last month came as a surprise. Many thought he would join the BRS and even contest elections.
Now KCR has decided to utilise his service as Advisor.
