The Election Commission of India on Sunday (02.12.2023) took action by suspending Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Anjani Kumar (IPS:1990:TG). This decision was made due to his violation of the Model Code of Conduct, which occurred when Kumar engaged with Congress leader Revanth Reddy during the ongoing state assembly election.
Anjani Kumar along with Sanjay Jain, the state police nodal Officer, had a meeting with Anumula Revanth Reddy, a contestant in the Telangana Assembly polls, prior to the announcement of the election results. A video circulated by a news agency showed the senior police official presenting Reddy with a flower bouquet.
In response to this breach of conduct, the Election Commission has formally communicated with Telangana Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari, recommending the immediate suspension of the Telangana DGP.
