Change of guard brings cheers to many, but may spell doom for some. Bureaucrats of Telangana are feeling this pang now-a-days. That is precisely the reason behind their decision not to follow oral orders of chief minister or any minister and invite trouble in future.
This decision was taken at a specially-convened meeting held at a Shamshabad hotel recently. The move was prompted after inquiries were ordered into scams involving their colleagues. These scams took place under the previous KCR regime in the state.
Various scams have come to fore leading to the probe being ordered into them like the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, financial irregularities in the conduct of the Formula E race, Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) investigation into IAS officer Amoy Kumar’s role in the irregularities in land transactions and GST scam, among others. This is not restricted to only serving bureaucrats, some are facing troubles even after retirement.
Bureaucrats believe that their colleagues got into trouble because they often followed oral instructions from their political masters. As a result, around 20 to 23 IAS officers and some non-cadre officers recently met at a hotel and reportedly decided to strictly adhere to established norms, guidelines and business rules rather than following oral instructions of political bosses. They fear they might get into trouble if there is a change of guard.
Sources said the officials’ prime concern is to stay away from facing inquiry commissions and fighting legal cases initiated by probe agencies. Interestingly, the said meeting has apparently caused a stir in government circles as no one knows what developments unfold in the coming days.
