The central government’s revenue collection targets by end of March, may take a hit as the tax officials have threatened to slow down their work, if their working conditions are not improved.
Their unions have written to the Central Board of Direct Taxes that the officials are being pressurised for tax collections, while there are no promotion rules for the staff, due to which their careers are stagnating. They have said that they will not submit their reports, halt search and seizure operations and stop overtime work by March 15, if their demands are not met. (Reuters)
