Sitanshu Kar succeeds Frank Noronha as new PIB chief

The Central government has named Sitanshu Kar as the new chief of PIB (Press Information Bureau), the central government’s publicity wing.

Frank Noronha, the incumbent PIB chief, who took over in 2014 will retire on April 30. According to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting statement, Sitanshu Kar will replace Noronha and take charge on May 01.

The 1983 batch Indian Information Officer, Sitanshu was serving as Director General, All India Radio.

Kar was also spokesperson of the defence ministry from 2005 to 2015 and worked with four defence ministers – Pranab Mukherjee, AK Antony, Arun Jaitley and Manohar Parrikar.

Frank Noronha, a 1982-batch officer of the IIS, was appointed as the head of the PIB in August 2014. He played a key role during the initial phase of the new government and led PIB’s social media drive.
