An IAS officer in Karnataka has got a show cause notice by the state government, for tweeting appreciatively about the Tablighi Jamaat members donating blood plasma. The officer, Mohammad Mohsin (IAS:1996:KN), came into limelight last year also, when he was suspended for trying to inspect the Prime Minister’s chopper in Odisha, where he was posted as an election observer.
Mohsin is a secretary in the Backward Class Welfare Department. According to the PTI, the government has taken a serious note of the adverse media coverage that his tweet has invited. The government has asked him to give a written reply, within five days, for violating the All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968. Mohsin has been warned of strict action, if his reply is not received in time.
The Tablighi Jamaat shot into limelight for organising a meet in Delhi in March, during the COVID-19 outbreak, when many of its members tested positive for coronavirus. These infected members then travelled across the country, with many carrying the virus.
