Senior IPS officer Alok Sharma (IPS:1991:UP) was on Friday appointed as Director of the Special Protection Group (SPG). Presently serving as Additional Director General within the SPG, Sharma’s appointment came in the wake of the unfortunate passing of SPG Chief Arun Kumar Sinha (IPS:1987:KL) on September 6. Sinha was 61 years old. Renowned for providing proximate armed security cover to the Prime Minister, former Prime Ministers, and their immediate family members. The decision to appoint Alok Sharma as the new SPG Director was endorsed by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. The order, issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) Ministry, approves Sharma’s appointment from the date of assuming charge until further orders.
