Senior diplomat Gopal Baglay appointed India’s High Commissioner to Australia

Senior diplomat Gopal Baglay (IFS:1992) has been designated as India's High Commissioner to Australia, succeeding Manpreet Vohra (IFS:1988), while he currently holds the position of India's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka.

Senior diplomat Gopal Baglay (IFS:1992) has been designated as India’s High Commissioner to Australia, succeeding Manpreet Vohra (IFS:1988), while he currently holds the position of India’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) officially confirmed this appointment in a statement released on Wednesday, stating, “Gopal Baglay (IFS:1992), presently serving as High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to Australia. He is expected to take up the assignment shortly”.”

Baglay has held various key roles within the Ministry of External Affairs, including serving as the official spokesperson and as Joint Secretary for Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran affairs. More recently, he worked as Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office.

Baglay commenced his assignment in Colombo in May 2020.
