Select committee to meet on May 24 to choose CBI Director

The selection committee meeting will be convened on May 24 under the leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to select the next Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Along with PM Modi, Chief Justice of India Justice NV Ramana and Leader of Opposition Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary will also take part in the meeting.

The government handed over the names of the officers who are considered for the post to the committee members. According to sources the list has senior IPS officers including Praveen Sinha (IPS:1988:GJ), Interim CBI Director, Rakesh Asthana (IPS:1984:GJ), Director General of BSF and NCB, Y.C. Modi (IPS:1984:AM), Director General of NIA, S S Deswal (IPS:1984:HY), Director General of ITBP, Arun Kumar (IPS:1985:UP), RPF Chief, Subodh Jaiswal (IPS:1985:MH), CISF Chief, Loknath Behera (IPS:1985:KL), DGP of Kerala, HC Awasthy (IPS:1985:UP), DGP of UP and M A Ganapathy (IPS:1986:UK), Director General of BCAS.

The CBI chief’s post has been vacant since the first week of February when RK Shukla (IPS:1983:MP) retired. Within days, the Centre named Sinha as interim CBI chief.
