SC Collegium recommends new Chief Justices for 8 High Courts

The Supreme Court collegium on Thursday (11.07.2024) recommended the appointment of Chief Justices of seven high courts- Delhi, Jharkhand , Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Meghalaya, Madras and Himachal Pradesh.

The Supreme Court collegium on Thursday (11.07.2024) recommended the appointment of Chief Justices of seven high courts- Delhi, Jharkhand , Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Meghalaya, Madras and Himachal Pradesh.

They are;

  1. Justice Manmohan, currently the Acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, has been recommended for appointment as its regular Chief Justice.
  2. Justice MS Ramachandra Rao, the current Chief Justice of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh, was recommended for transfer as Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court.
  3. Justice Suresh Kumar Kait, a senior Judge of the Delhi High Court, recommended for appointment as Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.
  4. Justice GS Sandhawalia, seniormost puisne Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, has been recommended for appointment as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
  5. Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar, seniormost puisne Judge of the Bombay High Court, was recommended for appointment as Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court.
  6. Justice Tashi Rabstan, seniormost puisne judge in the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, to be appointed Chief Justice of Meghalya High Court.
  7. Justice KR Shriram, a senior Judge of the Bombay High Court, has been recommended for appointment as Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.
  8. Justice Rajiv Shakdher, a senior Judge of the Delhi High Court, has been recommended for appointment as Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court.

The Collegium resolution addressed existing vacancies in the office of Chief Justices in the High Courts of Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Madras and Kerala and those likely to arise in the office of Chief Justices of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and Meghalaya.
