SC Collegium Recommends Appointment Of New Chief Justices For Bombay, Meghalaya and Orissa High Courts

The Supreme Court Collegium was on Saturday recommended the name of Justices Dipankar Datta, Biswanath Somadde and Mohammad Rafiq as the Chief Justice of High Court of Bombay, Meghalaya and Orissa respectively.

Justice Dipankar is the senior-most judge in the Calcutta High Court presently after Chief Justice T B Radhakrishnan. As a High Court judge, he is due to retire on February 8, 2027

Allahabad High Court judge Justice Biswanath Somadde (parent HC at Calcutta) was elevated to the Bench of the High Court at Calcutta as a permanent Judge on June 22, 2006. As a High Court judge, he is due to retire on December 14, 2025.

Collegium has also made the recommendation to transfer Chief Justice of Mehgayala High Court Justice Mohammad Rafiq to the Orissa High Court. As a High Court judge, he is due to retire on May 24, 2022
