The Supreme Court Collegium on Thursday (04.01.2024) put forth Justice Rahul Bharti, presently holding the position of Additional Judge, as their recommendation for the Permanent Judge role at the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. This proposal aligns with the High Court Collegium’s collective recommendation for Justice Rahul Bharti on August 21, 2023.
By the Memorandum of Procedure, Supreme Court Judges with expertise in the affairs of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh were consulted to assess the suitability of Justice Rahul Bharti for the Permanent Judge role. In line with the Collegium resolution dated October 26, 2017, a Committee of two Judges from the Supreme Court evaluated Justice Rahul Bharti’s judgments, rating them as ‘Good’ and ‘fairly reasonable.’
After a comprehensive review of the submitted material, the Collegium, consisting of Chief Justice of India (Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud), Justice (Sanjiv Khanna), and Justice (B R Gavai), collectively opines that Justice Rahul Bharti, currently serving as an Additional Judge, is well-suited for elevation to the position of Permanent Judge.
Subsequently, the Collegium has decided to recommend the appointment of Justice Rahul Bharti as a Permanent Judge at the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, thus filling one of the existing vacancies.”
