Sanjay Kumar Jain (IRTS:1990) has been appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). This decision was endorsed by the central government following the recommendation of the Search-Cum-Selection Committee (SCSC). The SCSC conducted interviews with over a dozen candidates on October 5, 2023, before recommending Mr. Jain for the role. The CMD position at IRCTC had remained vacant since January 2021, following the retirement of Mahendra Pratap Maal (IRAS: 1984).
Mr. Sanjay Kumar Jain currently holds the position of Principal Chief Commercial Manager (PCCM) in the Northern Railway. Prior to this assignment, he served as Joint Secretary in the Department of Public Enterprises in the Government of India.
It is worth noting that the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) had previously attempted to select a successor for Mr. Maal on May 17, 2021, but this effort was unsuccessful as only four out of the seven shortlisted candidates appeared for the selection interview, and none of them were found suitable by the PESB. Therefore, the SCSC route was adopted to select the CMD for IRCTC.
