The Modi government on Saturday (05.08.2023) took a significant step by appointing Sanjay Kumar Agarwal (IRS-IT&C:1988) as the new Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). This appointment comes in the wake of the retirement of the previous incumbent, Vivek Johri (IRS-IT&C:1985), which occurred on July 31. Notably, Sanjay Kumar Agarwal was previously functioning as a Member (Investigation) within the CBIC board, a position he had held since March 1, 2022.
In addition to this pivotal change, Surjit Bhujabal (IRS-IT&C:1989) has been appointed as the Member (Investigation) within the CBIC. Prior to this appointment, Surjit Bhujabal had been serving as the Principal Director General of the Directorate General of Goods and Services Tax Intelligence (DGGI) in Delhi.
