Samant Goel (IPS:1984:PB) has been appointed as the new Secretary of India’s external intelligence agency, the Research & Analysis Wing (RAW), for a period of two years. He will succeed Anil Dhasmana whose tenure comes to an end on June 29.
Before his appointment as R&AW chief, Goel was heading operations for the agency and was instrumental in planning the February 2019 Balakot air strikes and also the 2016 surgical strikes.
He has handled Punjab militancy at its peak in the 1990s.
