The central government has appointed Robert Jerard Ravi, (an ITS officer), as Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) for a period of six months. He will also hold additional charge as CMD of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) and Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL). Previously, Ravi was working as the Deputy Director General, Standards, Research and Innovation at the Department of Telecommunication (DoT).
The appointment of Ravi is effective from July 15. He replaced incumbent P K Purwar, whose tenure expired on July 14. Purwar had applied for extension but was not granted one. During the period of holding additional charge, Ravi will not be entitled to any additional remuneration.
