Rita A Taeotia emerges as the strongest contender for TRAI Chairman post

The incumbent Chairman of FSSAI and former Union Commerce Secretary Ms Rita A Taeotia (Retd.IAS:1981:GJ) has emerged as the foremost choice for the post of Chairman, Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The post will be falling vacant on 30 September 2020; the present Chairman, Ram Sewak Sharma (Retd IAS:1978:JH) attains the age of 65 and retires. As the tenure of the TRAI chairman is three years or 65 years of age whichever comes earlier.

Earlier, the government received around 80 applications, 35 of them from retired or serving IAS Officers. Some professional candidates with a background in management and telecom had also applied.

Among the applicants, besides the front runner Rita Teaotia (Retd.IAS,1981:GJ) , former Telecom Secretary JS Deepak (Retd.IAS:1982:UP), and former Steel Secretary Aruna Sharma (Retd.IAS:1982:MP) were some of the noticeable names.
