Approximately seven IAS officers from the 1992 and 1993 batches are under consideration for Secretary-level posts in the upcoming empanelment. This process is being prioritised before the 1994 batch empanelment begins, which, according to sources, hasn’t even started yet. As a result, officers from the 1994 batch will likely have to wait until early next year for their turn. More than 28 officers are in the running.
Traditionally, two batches are considered for empanelment each year, but in 2024, only the 1993 batch was empanelled. The delay in the 1994 batch empanelment is due to a shortage of available Secretary-level posts and pending placement of officers from earlier batches.
