The CRPF’s heckles has risen after an ‘unpleasant’ remark on the force, made by an IGP of Kashmir range.
The remark was made on April 29 in Baramulla, when DGP Dilbagh Singh was chairing a meeting of all SSPs and Commandants of North Kashmir.
During a discussion on the role of CRPF in the valley, IG Police Kashmir Range, Vijay Kumar remarked that the CRPF was taking credit for operations without doing anything.
Reported comment of Kumar was “Performance of CRPF is not up to the mark. Here, intelligence is generated by Jammu and Kashmir Police and operations are conducted by the Army and Rashtriya Rifles. The name of CRPF is inserted just like that. This I know. I have been in CRPF.”
The CRPF officers present did not react immediately to Kumar’s remark in the meeting ‘to avoid public embarrassment’. However, after the meeting, they lodged their protest with the IG.
Senior police officers fear that the incident may hurt the coordination among sister forces. According to sources, CRPF has sought senior level intervention in the matter.
During the meeting, DGP Dilbagh Singh, however, lauded the role of the CAPF officers and jawans and said,” The CAPFs have played a significant role both in maintaining law and order, and counter-insurgency operations.”
