The central government on Monday (27.01.2025) appointed senior IPS officer Rajesh Nirwan (IPS:1992:RJ) as the new Director General of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). He replaces Amrit Mohan Prasad (IPS:1989:OR), who is currently holding the post of Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) with additional charge of the DG, BCAS, since November 1, 2024.
In the order, the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) said, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Civil Aviation for appointment of Shri Rajesh Nirwan, IPS (RJ 1992) as Director General of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) from the date of assumption of charge and until further orders.”
Former full-time BCAS DG Zulfikar Hasan (IPS:1988:WB) had superannuated from the service on October 31, 2024.
It is worth noting that the government faced criticism for the delayed appointment of a full-time DG for BCAS, especially with several hoax bomb calls recently causing concern in the aviation sector.
