The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said in late night notification that the proposal by the Rajasthan government on 16 June was cleared by the Centre under the Rule 16 (1) of AIS (DCRB) Rules, 1958.

Sharma is known to be the trusted officer of current Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and is also known credible officer who served in the Union government on deputation. Following the retirement of OP Gupta, Usha Sharma returned from central deputation to the Rajasthan cadre in January last year.

The proposal for an extension in services for Usha Sharma was sent to the Centre owing to the excellent service record of the officer who is also credited for laying an extensive roadmap to implement the Rajasthan government’s welfare schemes. Now, Usha Sharma will continue to be head of the state bureaucracy throughout the Gehlot government tenure as the incumbent government’s tenure ends in December.
