RA Chandra Sekhar appointed Secretary (Security), Cabinet Secretariat

RA Chandra Sekhar to take over as Secretary (Security) in Cabinet Secretariat from August 1, succeeding Harinath Mishra.

Senior IPS officer RA Chandra Sekhar (IPS:1991:KL), currently serving as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau (IB), has been appointed as Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat. According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Saturday (14.06.2025), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Mr Sekhar to the post with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post on or after 01.08.2025, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Sekhar will assume charge on or after August 1, 2025, following the retirement of incumbent Harinath Mishra (IPS:1990:KL), who demits office on July 31, 2025.

The Secretary (Security), Cabinet Secretariat is the administrative head of the Special Protection Group (SPG) that provides security to the prime minister and members of his immediate family residing with him at his official residence.

The SPG also provides security to any former prime minister and members of his immediate family residing with him at the residence allotted to him for a period of five years from the date he ceases to hold the office of the prime minister.
