The Punjab government may appoint Senior IPS officer V K Bhawra (IPS:1987:PB) as state’s new Director General of Police since his name is among the top three IPS officers found most suitable by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in its Tuesday’s selection committee meeting.
The other two IPS officers found most suitable by the UPSC to head the state police force include former DGP Dinkar Gupta (IPS:1987:PB) and Prabodh Kumar (IPS:1988:PB). Now, it is state government’s prerogative to appoint one out of these three names as the state police chief.
With Kumar having sought central deputation and Gupta being considered a confidant of former chief minister Amarinder Singh and not finding favour with the current dispensation led by Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, the top post is likely to land in Bhawra’s lap.
