The Punjab Government has written to the Centre seeking extension for DGP Suresh Kumar Arora, who is superannuating on September 30. The request for extension to the 1982-batch IPS officer has reportedly been moved after consulting the MHA, the cadre controlling authority. Rules permit a three-month extension in service.
The move has come amid confusion over the appointment of the next DGP, especially in the wake of a recent Supreme Court judgment directing the states to send a panel of senior officers to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) which will shortlist three officers of whom the state will select the top cop.
