The Punjab government on Monday (02.09.2024) posted IPS officer Paramraj Singh Umranangal (IPS:1995:PB) as Inspector General of Police, Policy and Rules, Chandigarh.
IPS Umrangal Singh, who remained under suspension for more than five years, was reinstated in the month of July by the state government following Punjab and Haryana High Court order.
He was suspended in February 2019 in connection with police firing on anti-sacrilege protesters at Kotkapura in the aftermath of the alleged sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib in Bargari in 2015. His suspension was quashed by the court in February this year.
Earlier, when he was suspended, he took refuge in CAT. His petition was rejected by CAT. After this he approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
