Senior IAS officer Anirudh Tewari (IAS:1990:PB) was on Thursday (23.09.2022) appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Punjab. Presently, Tiwari is working as Additional Chief Secretary-cum-Financial Commissioner, Development. He will replace Vini Mahajan (IAS:1987:PB), who has served as Chief Secretary since June 2020. Ms Mahajan has been re-designated as Special Chief Secretary.
By appointing Tewari as the topmost bureaucrat of Punjab, the government has overlooked five IAS officers senior to him. They include Ravneet Kaur (IAS:1988:PB), Sanjay Kumar (IAS:1988:PB), Anjali Bhawra (IAS:1988:PB), who is on a central deputation, Vijay Kumar Janjua (IAS:1989:PB), and Kripa Shankar Saroj (IAS:1989:PB). As consequence of promotion of Anirudh Tiwari, all these officers have been designated as Special Chief Secretary to Government of Punjab.
