Prof. Kiran Kondabagil appointed Director of Agharkar Research Institute, Pune

New Delhi: Prof. Kiran Kondabagil has been appointed as Director of Agharkar Research Institute (ARI), Pune. According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Wednesday (September 23, 2026), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved his appointment to the post.

Prof. Kondabagil is currently serving as a Professor in the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering at IIT Bombay. He joined IIT Bombay in 2011.

His academic qualifications include M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Mysore. His research work includes virus evolution, DNA replication, repair and packaging, and environmental virology.

The Agharkar Research Institute is an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
