The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has applauded the efforts undertaken by the state carrier Air India to evacuate 263 Indians, mostly students from coronavirus affected Rome. In his tweet Modi has said that Air India ‘has shown utmost courage and risen to the call of humanity.’

The rescue operation from Rome was carried out by Captain Swati Rawat and Captain Raja Chauhan, using Air India’s Boeing 777.

This is not the first time that the government has appreciated the efforts of Air India crew members in coronavirus related rescue operations.

In February, Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had given appreciation letters to 68 pilots who were involved in rescue operation from Wuhan. These letters were issued personally by the Prime Minister.
