The high-powered committee led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly selected three names as the candidates for the post of Director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Besides PM Modi, other two members of the panel, Chief Justice of India NV Ramana, and Congress leader in the Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, were also part of the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence.
Reportedly, during the 90-minute meeting, Subodh Kumar Jaiswal (IPS:1985:MH), DG, CISF ; Kumar Rajesh Chandra (IPS:1985:BH), DG, SSB and VKS Kaumudi (IPS:1986:AP), Special Secretary, Internal Security (MHA) and Director, BPR&D, were selected as candidates for next CBI chief. The government can now appoint any officer out of these three as next CBI Director.
Currently, Praveen Sinha (IPS:1988:GJ) is holding the position as the acting chief of CBI after the tenure of former CBI Director Rishi Kumar Shukla (IPS:1983:MP) ended on February 3.
