The race for the next Chairman of Coal India Limited (CIL) has entered its final stage. Reliable sources confirmed that the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has scheduled the interviews for the coveted post on September 20, 2025, in New Delhi.
A total of 11 candidates have been shortlisted for the interaction. The list includes senior executives from leading PSUs as well as government departments:

The upcoming selection is significant as Coal India plays a crucial role in meeting India’s energy demands, being the world’s largest coal producer. The incumbent Chairman, PM Prasad, who assumed charge on July 1, 2023, is set to retire on October 31, 2025. His successor will lead the Maharatna PSU at a time when the coal sector is undergoing critical transitions in line with India’s energy security and renewable energy goals.
