Parameswaran Iyer moves to World Bank, BVR Subrahmanyam is next NITI Aayog CEO

Parameswaran Iyer (Retd.IAS:1981:UP), CEO of NITI Aayog, has been appointed as Executive Director (ED), World Bank Headquarters, Washington DC, USA. According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Monday (21.02.2023), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Mr. Iyer to the post for a tenure of three
years from the date of assumption of the charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Niti Aayog CEO Iyer was appointed by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet in July last year for two years or until further orders, whichever comes first.

Iyer will replace Rajesh Khullar (IAS:1988:HY) at the World Bank, who is returning to Haryana upon request by the state government. Khullar was appointed to the World Bank in September 2020 and was expected to continue until his retirement on 31 August 2023.

Rajesh Khullar served as Executive Director at the World Bank Group representing Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Sri Lanka since November 1, 2020.

At NITI Aayog, former IAS officer BVR Subrahmanyam (Retd.IAS:1987:CG) will replace Parameswaran Iyer. Subrahmanyam had previously served as Commerce Secretary with the Central government. Prior to that, he was the Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Subrahmanyam has previously served in the Prime Minister’s Office – under both Manmohan Singh and Narendra Modi.
