Parameswaran Iyer gets 3-month extension as World Bank Executive Director

Former IAS officer Parameswaran Iyer gets 3-month extension as World Bank Executive Director till June 2026.

Former IAS officer Parameswaran Iyer (Retd. IAS:1981:UP) has been given a three-month extension as Executive Director at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington DC.

An order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training on Wednesday (March 18, 2026) said the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension. His tenure has been extended beyond March 19, 2026 till June 19, 2026.

Iyer was appointed to the post on February 21, 2023 for three years. He took charge on March 19, 2023. His term was to end now, but it has been extended for three more months.

Before this role, he was CEO of NITI Aayog from 2022 to 2023. He is widely recognised for his work in the Swachh Bharat Mission in rural areas.

He served as Secretary in the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation from 2016 to 2020. Earlier, he had taken voluntary retirement in 2009. He worked with the World Bank and later returned to government service in 2016.

Parameswaran Iyer is currently representing India and some neighbouring countries at the World Bank.
