In a significant development, senior Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer Ranjan Prakash Thakur (IRTS:1989), presently serving as Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) at Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), Delhi, has been prematurely repatriated to his parent cadre.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Wednesday (October 22, 2025), the competent authority approved the proposal for his premature repatriation to enable him to avail the benefit of promotion in his parent service.

Mr. Thakur has been serving as CVO, ONGC since March 2022. Initially appointed for a tenure of three years, his term was later extended on April 17, 2024, till August 31, 2026, the date of his superannuation, or until further orders. However, his tenure now concludes prematurely following this latest order.

Notably, before his ONGC assignment, Thakur served as Principal Secretary, Industries & Commerce Department in the Jammu and Kashmir government. He was deputed to Jammu & Kashmir by the Government of India in February 2021, during a crucial period following the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
