Odisha: YB Khurania appointed DGP

The Odisha government on Friday appointed senior IPS officer YB Khurania (IPS:1990:OR) as new Director General of Police of the state. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) recommended three names for the top post out of those names the Odisha government selected Khurania as DGP. He will replace senior IPS officer Arun Kumar Sarangi (IPS:1990:OR), who was given additional charge of DGP.

Khurania was serving as the Special Director General (DG) of Border Security Force (BSF), Western Command in Chandigarh, when he was repatriated to parent cadre on August 2.

Khurania had served as Vigilance Director and Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner before going on central deputation and joining BSF in 2018.

He has vast experience in Odisha as he has served in various positions. His roles included Superintendent of Police (SP) in Nayagarh, Jajpur, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, and Rourkela districts. Upon his promotion to Deputy Inspector General (DIG), he was assigned to the Southern Range in Berhampur, among other postings.
