The Odisha government on Wednesday (15.12.2021) appointed senior IPS officer Sunil Kumar Bansal (IPS:1987:OR) the next Director General of Police. Presently, he is serving as the Special Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) at New Delhi. According to an order issued by the Home Department, he has been appointed to the post of DGP of Odisha on recommendation of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and in the interest of public service for a period of two years with effect from the date of joining in the post.
Bansal will take charge as the Odisha DGP from January 1, 2022. He will take over the charge from the current DGP Abhay (IPS:1986:OR) who was appointed to the top post in November 2019.
Apart from Bansal, the UPSC had shortlisted Pradeep Kapur (IPS:1986:OR) and Manoj Kumar Chhabra (IPS:1988:OR) for the DGP’s post.
